Before you invest in training

6 vital questions to ask


Before you sign yourself or your staff up for training events which may be of doubtful value, ask yourself...and the organization you’re talking with...these 6 vital questions.

1. Is business skills training the producer’s main business, or just a sideline?
2. Do they tell you who the
course leader will be?
3. Do the instructors have the
credentials...education and business experience...to make their knowledge
real and valuable to the delegates?
4. Do they give
references...from people you know...
for both the course and the presenter?
5. Is the
fee reasonable? Remember:

·

a free presentation is usually a sales pitch for some other product or service

·

low price usually denotes low quality; you get what you pay for!

·

some organizations charge extra for course materials, teas, lunches, etc.

·

paying a high price to hear a “star” is no guarantee of quality, unless the “star” has something useful to say

6. Is there a payoff...a real “dollars-and-sense” benefit that flows logically from the subject and nature of the training?
